Patient.info has launched a new medical AI assistant tool that combines conversational technology with the health information provider's established library of clinically-reviewed health information.
The free tool is available through the existing Patient.info website, and is designed to help people understand their health and find reliable, trusted medical information more easily.
The launch comes at a time when more people are turning to online searches and AI tools with questions about their health. However, a poll carried out by Ipsos for the Academy of Medical Sciences found that 69% of UK adults say it is difficult for the public to spot misleading health information.
AskPatient is designed to provide a safer alternative to searching the internet, with a focus on health information and guidance rather than diagnosis or prescribing. It will also help users understand when to seek appropriate care, including contacting their GP, NHS 111 or emergency services.
AskPatient has already helped a significant number of users since its launch, with 403,944 conversations started, focused on over 9,500 different health-related topics.
“People have always had questions about their health, but the way they look for answers is changing rapidly,” said Thomas Porteus, Director of Patient.info.
“AskPatient brings together the accessibility of conversational AI with the trusted clinical information that Patient.info has provided for decades. Our aim is not to replace doctors or provide a diagnosis, but to help people find and understand trusted health information more easily, access the right resources and be empowered to make better-informed decisions about when to seek professional help.
“Responsible use of AI in healthcare starts with being clear about what the technology can and can’t do,” added Thomas. “AskPatient is deliberately focused on information and navigation, and can help users understand medical terminology, conditions, medicines and tests, whilst guiding them towards further information that’s relevant to their question.”
AskPatient uses Patient.info’s health content as its core knowledge source. The website already serves eight-million monthly visitors with 11,000 pages of healthcare content and clinical information that’s written and peer reviewed by qualified clinicians and aligned with trusted NHS and NICE guidance.
Established in 1996, Patient.info has become a household name in the healthcare industry, spending three decades supporting healthcare organisations, medical professionals and patients with digital solutions, clinically reviewed healthcare information designed to improve patient outcomes and enhance the delivery of care. It was named by Which? as the top GP-recommended health site in 2025, and is regularly cited by the NHS, GOV.UK, and leading national news publications.
In May 2025, Patient.info joined Navigate Health, a UK-based digital health company on a mission to make healthcare more accessible and personalised.
